Training FAQs

What will I learn?
SASSI training is offered in two sessions. In Session I: Administration & Scoring you will learn how the SASSI was developed and how it should be used, administration & scoring of the adult (SASSI-3) and the adolescent (SASSI-A2) questionnaires, and basic knowledge of the individual scales. In Session II: Clinical Interpretation you will learn the clinical use of the SASSI scales, screening and assessment information, and how to give feedback to the client.

How long is the training?
Each session is approximately 3.5 hours.

What is the cost of the training?
The cost of training varies by location. This is due to the fact that our instructors are independent contractors, each with their own expenses involved in presenting the workshops. You may click on the name of the city where you are interested in attending training to view additional registration information, if available, including cost.

Can anyone attend training?
Yes. Anybody who needs to screen for alcohol & drug related disorders is encouraged to attend. There are no prerequisites or specific qualifications needed to register for a workshop.

Do I get continuing education credits?
Yes. TASSI, Inc. is approved to give 3.5 credits for each session of training by the National Association of Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), California Association of Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC), and Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals (TCBAP). Some of our instructors are approved to give other Credits for varying Boards in their state. We suggest you contact the instructor who is offering the workshop you are planning to attend to find out what other credits they may be offering.

Do I have to attend training prior to using and/or purchasing the SASSI?
Training is not mandatory for human service practitioners whose certification and/or professional training includes assessment (e.g., psychologist, social workers, certified addiction counselors, etc.). If you do not have this professional training you can still administer and score the SASSI if there is appropriate supervision without attending training. However, since the SASSI is a carefully developed assessment instrument it requires proper administration, scoring and interpretation. Therefore, eligibility to purchase is limited to the above listed human service practitioners. If you do not have this professional training and do not have appropriate supervision, then you must provide proof of training in order to purchase the SASSI. (It is suggested that you contact your state government for specific information on the laws regulating assessment and testing in your state.)

Is there training for the Spanish SASSI?
We do not offer training on the Spanish version. The scoring procedure is exactly the same as other SASSIs. Also, we recommend against using the scale scores to develop clinical hypothesis. However, SASSI clinicians are pleased to assist anyone who may need help with administration and scoring by calling 888-297-2774.

Is there training on the BADDS?
Training for the BADDS is not required or available. The BADDS is a simple instrument to administer. It does not require a scoring key and there is less inference involved in interpretation. As with the SASSI, help is just a phone call away for those seeking assistance with administration, scoring and interpretation of the questionnaire by calling the Clinical Helpline at (888) 297-2774, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Can I get a replacement certificate if I lost mine?
Yes. If we are able to locate record of your attendance at a certified SASSI training we would be happy to replace your certificate at no cost. It is important that you filled out all documentation at the workshop in order for us to verify your attendance.
